MOSS VALE McDonald’s finally opened its doors to the public on Wednesday.

Owner Graham Marcolin said he was thrilled to finally be able to open a McDonald’s at Moss Vale.

“I think it’s a good thing for Moss Vale- for employment and the community,” he said.

The McDonald’s is located on the corner of the Illawarra Highway and Argyle Street, at the entrance of Moss Vale.

“I know a lot of people were concerned having a McDonald’s at a gateway to Moss Vale.

“I think we’ve done a good job of trying to blend into the local environment,” Mr Marcolin said.

As well as offering the usual McDonald’s food items, Mr Marcolin said the restaurant was a great place for young people to get a start in the workplace.

“From an employment point of view we’re proud to say we’ve just created another 130 local jobs.”

Mr Marcolin owns five other McDonald’s – two at Sutton Forest, two at Goulburn and one at Picton – and employs 450 people in the Wingecarribee Shire and more than 800 in the group.

“It’s about giving good quality training that’s about providing traineeships as well. I’m proud to say we actually influence and develop and mould people for their future careers.”

With a modern, new building – including a McCafe, large play area and digital drive through menu boards – Mr Marcolin said the burger bar would also be a big drawcard for customers.

“People will have to come in to see it and experience it.”

While Mr Marcolin welcomes the community’s support, he said it was also important to give back.

McDonald’s have sponsored several events and sporting teams in the area including Moss Vale Hockey Club, Moss Vale Rugby League Club, Moss Vale Soccer Club, the Berrima Carpathon and Moss Vale Rodeo.

“It’s always been about supporting the community that the community and customer base comes from,” Mr Marcolin said.

“I think that’s important.”

Mr Marcolin said he was proud to have used local materials and suppliers in the construction of the restaurant and hoped to continue to be able to do so.

“What we’ve tried to do is build a restaurant that even from a local community point of view they can frequent and be proud of,” he said.

“That was the goal and I think we’re pretty close to the mark.”
